Get to know her better by reading her exclusive interview with Kess InHouse below.
Kess InHouse : Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get your start as an artist?
CarolLynn Tice : I have always loved abstract art and was inspired to start making art myself. I discovered a natural talent and have since grown my portfolio to hundreds of pieces that I am able to license and I also enjoy selling my originals.
KIH : What is your first memory as an artist?
CT : I had won a community art contest in kindergarten. I remember going to see the art with my family as it was on display in a local store.
KIH : What is your creative process?
CT : I choose a color scheme and technique and then I add layers until the art looks complete and I think it’s awesome.
KIH : What is your favorite part of the creative process?
CT : Seeing everything come together as I finish a painting is my favorite and most exciting part of the process.
KIH : What common threads do you find show up in your artwork?
CT : That’s a hard one for me because I love using different color schemes in different seasons and I enjoy creating different types of art as well. I do strive to make my art simple with a good balance of color.
KIH : How did your relationship with Kess Inhouse begin?
CT : I submitted my request to be a part of Kess Inhouse and I was grateful for their response saying that they would love to have me as one of their artists.
KIH : What is your favorite piece? How did you develop the composition?
CT : I have quite a few favorites, but ‘A Simple Abstract’ is probably my most popular. I have found that the process works best when I have no plan of how the painting will look when I’m done. I seem to create my most popular images when I don’t ‘try to hard’ and I’m able to relax and just see where the creative process takes me.
KIH : What is your work space like?
CT : I built my own work table/drying shelf to accommodate my needs which makes things functional. I also have a large desk that provides me the space needed to do all the photo editing and uploading. I think it’s important that I enjoy my workspace since I spend so much time there. I also love having quite a few pictures of my family and friends on the walls so there is plenty of color and it’s not boring.
KIH : Why did you become an artist?
CT : Being an artist is so much more fun and rewarding that any other job I’ve ever had. Getting positive feedback and creating things that are beautiful everyday shows me that I’m doing what I’m meant to be doing to I am very blessed to have found that.
KIH : What are your top 5 favorite products offered by Kess Inhouse for your artwork?
CT : I’d have to say pillows, duvet covers, bath mats, shower curtains and yoga mats. I’ve yet to see colorful and fun yoga mats like this anywhere else.
KIH : What artists inspire you to create your artwork?
CT : I admire so many artists. There is so much modern talent and then there are artists like Rothko that I love.
KIH : Would you recommend Kess Inhouse to other artists?
CT : Absolutely, Kess Inhouse is a really fun and rewarding company to partner with.
